To American basketball fans, the Chinese Basketball Association is slowly turning into the “Whatever Happened To So-and-So” League. It’s a place where former All-Star point guards get statues erected in their honor (on the merits of one CBA championship ring). It’s where Tracy McGrady is spending the twilight of his career. It’s where Quincy Douby can score 75 points in a single game…*record scratch*…hold on, who? And he did what? Douby, the former Rutgers star and Sacramento Kings guard (who hasn’t played an NBA minute since 2009) set the CBA record for most points scored in a single game, leading his Zhejiang Golden Bulls to a 154-129 win over the Shanxi Brave Dragons. Douby averaged a measly 4.1 points per game in his three-year NBA career, so it’s entirely appropriate to call into question the level of competition — Brave Dragons big man Charles Gaines, a career D-Leaguer, dropped 60 on Eddy Curry (yes, that Eddy Curry) in a losing effort. However, Douby also holds CBA records for most points in an All-Star game (44) and CBA Finals game (53), so at this point he’s basically the Wilt Chamberlain of the CBA — scoring-wise, that is.
