The Celtics have added an NBA veteran to new bench boss Brad Stevens‘ coaching staff. Ron Adams, who most recently served as Tom Thibodeau‘s second-in-command in Chicago, has joined the Celtics as an assistant coach, the Boston Herald’s Steve Bulpett reported Monday night. Baxter Holmes of The Boston Globe later seconded Bulpett’s report. Sources saying that Ron Adams to Celtics as assistant coach is done.— Steve Bulpett (@SteveBHoop) July 16, 2013 League source confirms that former Chicago assistant Ron Adams will be joining the Celtics. @SteveBHoop had it first.— Baxter Holmes (@BaxterHolmes) July 16, 2013 With the Bulls, Adams served as at the top assistant to Thibodeau (himself a former Celtics assistant), but his exit from Chicago was reportedly an unceremonious one. Despite having a close relationship with both Thibodeau and Bulls star Derrick Rose, Adams was let go by the team in what the Chicago Tribune’s K.C. Johnson described as a “power play” by Bulls general manager Gar Forman. In addition to two separate coaching stints in Chicago, Adams has spent time with the Thunder, Bucks, 76ers, Spurs and four different collegiate programs. He began his coaching career in 1969, seven years before Stevens was born.
