Let me start by saying I like J.J. Redick’s game and would love to see him in a Celtics uniform. He’s a great shooter and gritty defender. But… the Celtics already have a glut of shooting guards. Who stays and who goes? I wouldn’t swap Avery Bradley for Redick or any other shooting guard (Kobe, Wade and Harden excluded). Courtney Lee makes the most sense. If that’s the direction Ainge is headed, he’s going to need a third team because the Magic won’t take Lee (3 years and $15+ million remaining on his deal). Redick makes $6 million and is in the final year of his contract. Redick addressed the trade speculation earlier this month: “At the (trade) deadline, maybe there’s an offer that (GM) Rob (Hennigan) has to consider. But I don’t get any indication from him that they are actively looking to move me,’’ Redick continued. “So if I’m here past the deadline, that’s the first hurdle.” I do wonder about Jason Terry. He’s been wildly inconsistent and especially awful on defense. Wi

Noah's funny response to KG trash talk

Joakim Noah and Kevin Garnett have a history against each other, and Noah had a funny response when asked about KG's trash talk.

Video and photos of Rajon Rondo's strange pre-game ritual, submitted by Celtics Life readers

A few days ago, we posted an article about Jason Terry's description of Rajon Rondo's really bizarre pre-game ritual: "(Rajon Rondo's) routine is long-winded and it lasts all the way through tip-off. It starts in the back hallway. He runs down a corridor and he throws the ball to our team chaplain, who throws it back. Then [Rondo] runs out into a circle, high...

Doc Rivers: trades are on the way if team doesn't start to "play hard"

If you thought the trade rumors were bad before, just wait. According to Boston Globe writer Gary Washburn, Doc Rivers ripped into the Celtics Sunday night after their loss to Detroit 103-88. One tactic he unleashed was threatening to shakeup the roster to get players who are “committed to being a good basketball team.” I gotta either find the right combination, the right...

Kevin Garnett called a cheap shot artist by Joakim Noah

Kevin Garnett will never be misunderstood as a nice guy. The NBA is full of personalities that are competitive yet not capable of the misdeeds that Garnett is capable of. Joakim Noah is not exactly a pillar of virtue either. His history does not reflect someone who is afraid to sneak in a low-blow from time [...] [[ This is a content summary only. Full-Court Press: No center, no problem?

Clifford Ray isn't so sure about all this. Ray watched the Olympic gold medal game in August. He watched as a Spanish team without Ricky Rubio gave the U.S. men a scare, and he has a theory about why the Spaniards didn't end up handing the Americans a silver and keeping gold for themselves. "I knew that whenever they went to the Olympics and they went to the Olympics...

Back from London, Pistons clobber Celtics

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. -- So much for jet leg. Three days after flying across the Atlantic and back for a game in London, the Pistons came out Sunday and beat the Boston Celtics, 103-88. "We got into the gym when we got back, just to get the jet lag out of here and get some shots up," said Brandon Knight, who finished with 15 points. "We had some great workouts and...

George Stephanopoulos Thinks Bill Russell Is Morgan Freeman

This is what happens when you let George Stephanopoulos call an inauguration ceremony attended by the greatest member of the Boston Celtics. This wouldn’t be so bad if Bill wasn’t wearing a Celtics hat. Where are the spotters from ABC? Maybe a simple, “George, coming up is a shot of Celtics legend Bill Russell,” in his ear before giving him the Bill Russell shot. Let’s...

Celtics-Pistons Preview

The Boston Celtics' recent roller-coaster ride of results has taken another downward dip. That's the same trend they've been on against the Detroit Pistons lately. The streaky Celtics look to get back on track Sunday night when they visit a Detroit team playing for the first time since its trip to London. After losing four straight Dec. 27-Jan. 2, Boston won six in...

Magic's late charge falls short vs. Mavericks

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) -- Shawn Marion had 20 points, and O.J. Mayo and Vince Carter scored 15 apiece as the Dallas Mavericks fought off a late Orlando surge and beat the Magic 111-105 on Sunday night. The Mavericks led by 13 in the fourth quarter, before the Magic pulled within a basket in the final minute. Dallas earned its seventh straight road victory in its series against Orlando...

Mavericks-Magic Preview

The Orlando Magic's last two victories have come against division leaders. They just haven't been able to get the job done against teams below .500. Orlando will try to avoid a seventh consecutive defeat to an opponent with a losing record when the Dallas Mavericks seek a seventh straight road win in this series Sunday night. After ending a 10-game skid with a 104-101 victory...

Magic-Pistons Preview

It's no secret the Orlando Magic have struggled defensively during their month-long malaise, but they've been particularly bad against teams with losing records. Perhaps facing the Detroit Pistons twice in the next six days will get them headed in the right direction. Orlando will try to avoid an eighth straight loss against a sub-.500 team on Tuesday night at The Palace...

Bobcats Halt Magic's 1 Game Winning Streak, Orlando Fans Dismayed

Well, that was unfortunate. Last night, the Magic fell to the lowly Charlotte Bobcats. Over their last four games, the Magic have had big wins over the Los Angeles Clippers and Indiana Pacers, while dropping the ball (bad pun, but appropriate) to the Washington Wizards and Charlotte Bobcats. Or you can look at it like this; our two wins were against teams with a combined 56-25 and...
