New Orleans Hornets restricted free agent Eric Gordon has reached an agreement with the Phoenix Suns on a four-year, 58 million contract, reports The New Orleans Times-Picayune on Tuesday night. Gordon will sign the contract on July 11 and the Hornets will have two days to match the offer. In January, Gordon turned down a four-year, 50 million extension by the Hornets. Gordon was the cornerstone piece for the Hornets in the Chris Paul trade with the Los Angeles Clippers last offseason. The Hornets traded Paul and two future second round picks to Los Angeles for Gordon, Chris Kaman, Al-Farouq Aminu and a 2012 first-round pick. The Hornets are expected to match the offer to Gordon with hopes of combining him with 1 overall draft pick Anthony Davis and guard Austin Rivers, both selected last week in the NBA Draft, to form a very talented and young nucleus in New Orleans. Gordon is regarded as one of the best up-and-coming shooting guards in the league. In four seasons, he has averaged 18.2 points on 45 percent shooting from the field to go with 3.3 assists per game.
