This season for the New York Knicks has been one to forget for the most part.

Aside from "Linsanity," the Knicks' season has been mired with injuries to key players such as Carmelo Anthony, Jeremy Lin, Amar'e Stoudemire, coaching change, and even Amar'e resorting to stupidity (punching glass on a fire extinguisher cover) in the series versus the Heat.

Yes the Knicks' season has been tumultuous but here is something to make Knicks fans smile. According to reports, Tyson Chandler is set to be named the 2011-12 NBA Defensive Player of the Year.

Tyson Chandler has been voted the NBA's Defensive Player of the Year for his impact on the New York Knicks, a person with knowledge of the award said Tuesday.

The Knicks went from tied for 27th in the NBA in opponent points per game last season to 11th in their first season with Chandler at center. They trimmed 11 points off the 105.7 they yielded in 2010-11.

Chandler's victory was first reported by Yahoo Sports.

The person told The Associated Press of the honor on condition of anonymity because the official announcement was to come from the NBA. The award will be announced Wednesday.

With Chandler reportedly set to receive the award, it will end Dwight Howard's three-year streak of winning the annual award. Chandler averaged 9.9 rebounds and 1.4 blocked shots for New York this season and as much as those numbers are solid, I feel Thunder's Serge Ibaka was more deserving.

Ibaka is just a beast when it comes to defending the rim and paint. Serge averaged 7.5 rebounds, and 3.7 blocks enough for him to win the block shots category this season. Not to mention, he averaged 6.46 blocks per 48 minutes during the regular season. Furthermore, OKC went 31-12 during the regular season when Ibaka blocked three-plus shots.

Nonetheless, soak it in Knicks fans, it might be one of the very few good things to come out of this season.
