A year after joining the Houston Rockets via restricted free agency, Omer Asik has reportedly asked the organization to trade him. The 27 year old Turk is seeking the change of scenery due to a drastic cut in playing time which has seen his minutes reduced from 30 per game in 2012-13 to 20.7 per game this season. That decrease is largely attributed to the offseason addition of Dwight Howard who has taken over the starting center position after signing a massive four-year, $88 million contract. Prior to Howard’s arrival Asik had been a mainstay in the Rockets lineup, starting all 82 games last season while averaging 10.1 points and 11.7 rebounds per game. The addition of Howard didn’t immediately spell the end for Asik though as the team had hoped that playing the two side by side would be a possibility. That quickly came to an end as the duo were ineffective when on the court with one another. This isn’t the first
BEST OF MAXIM
Through 10 games, Dwight Howard appears to be a nice fit with the 6-4 Houston Rockets. However, he is still the same old Dwight when it comes to shooting free throws. Howard, a career 58% free throw shooter, has hit just 49% of his free throws this season. For years we have heard about how […]
If it’s true that everything is bigger in Texas, then this version of “Linsanity” should be apocalyptic.
Less than two years after Jeremy Lin set the sports world on fire with his ridiculous two-month run in 2012, the one-time Harvard stud who couldn’t find a suitor on draft night is playing the best basketball of his career. Yes, it’s early. Yes, the Rockets have thus...
The one mother of Dwight Howard’s kids who never seems to be involved in any drama Hope Alexa has just come out with a new bikini photoshoot.
Hope has been working with Gamma Labs over the past year and seems to be working toward being independent and doing her own thing than living off Dwight Howard.
You can check out more about what she is doing at Gamma Labs here.
Final Score: Houston Rockets 117, Philadelphia 76′ers 123 The Houston Rockets showed great resilience Monday night in their double-overtime victory against the Toronto Raptors. They embarked on a tough two-game road trip, and their first stop was in Philadelphia to face Daryl Morey’s old assistant GM Sam Hinkie and his surprisingly successful 76’ers squad. The ...The post Jeremy...
Dwight Howard knows the best way to stop teams from using the ''Hack-a-Howard'' defense is to make his free throws.
On Saturday night, the normally free throw-challenged center did just that.
Howard scored 18 of his 25 points in the fourth quarter, including 13 of 19 free throws in a 2 1/2-minute stretch, and the Houston Rockets beat the Denver Nuggets 122-111....
He comes from a sabermetric world, and some people even tell you he helped pioneer a new way of thinking about the NBA game. Which makes us wonder this about Daryl Moray: Are he and other MIT Monsters of Math less inclined to fall in love with their teams?
Especially when they’re only 6-4, which is not the kind of start one would hope for a team with title expectations?
According to ESPN’s Marc Stein, Omer Asik, who recently requested a trade from the Rockets, will definitely be dealt before the trade deadline. The 7-footer hasn’t played since the report came out Thursday.
The Houston Rockets will be trading Omer Asik as quickly as they can find a palatable trade. That much is certain.
[...] Sources with knowledge of the situation told ESPN...
Before Saturday night’s game against Denver at Toyota Center, Rockets center Omer Asik was nowhere to be found.
He was in the building but unavailable to play.
He didn’t attend the shootaround that morning.
When coach Kevin McHale was asked about Asik’s status, he said, “O will not play tonight.”
“He did not (attend the shootaround). He is under the weather...
Omer Asik has requested a trade from the Houston Rockets.
Asik is unhappy with his playing time with the Rockets playing Dwight Howard at center.
Asik declined comment, referring questions to his agent, Andy Miller. Miller also would not comment on any trade request.
“I would say the situation is very frustrating right now and were trying to work through it,” Miller said...
After playing just a little over 4 minutes in an overtime loss against Philadelphia this past Wednesday, Omer Asik, who let Houston know in the offseason that he would not be pleased coming off the bench, is not pleased. According to reports, Asik has requested a trade form the Houston Rockets:With his starting job gone and his playing time slashed, Rockets center Omer Asik has asked...
Dwight Howard is terrible at free throws. You know it, Dwight knows it, even the league knows it. That’s why the NBA decided to create a rule that would reduce how many times Howard, a career 57.6% shooter, would make it to the charity stripe.
When put that way it seems ludicrous, but it’s actually rather brilliant. It’s filed under the NBA rule-book as an ‘away-from-the...
The Beard is greater than Melo.
HOUSTON 109, NEW YORK 106
Best Boxes: James Harden was a game-time decision heading into Thursday's showdown with the Knicks. So of course the Beard blew up for 36 points (9-of-17 shots with two 3-pointers and a humongous 16-of-18 from the charity stripe), nine rebounds, two assists and a steal in 42 minutes. Lock him into your lineup...
While they've struggled defensively for most of the season, the Houston Rockets haven't been as productive on the offensive end during their recent funk.
Considering the way former Knick Jeremy Lin has been playing, the visiting Rockets might not need James Harden to turn things around Thursday night when they seek their 16th win in 17 games against New York.
Let’s remember that the Knicks are indeed shorthanded and that the Houston Rockets have two bona fide All-Stars. This wasn’t losing at home to the Charlotte Bobcats. It stunk because it was another game – like the loss in Chicago – that came down to the end and was there for the taking. But there were some positives to go along with the continuing concerns. Some thoughts...
The Oklahoma City Thunder have been looking for ways to replace the scoring left on the table after losing James Harden just over a year ago. Kevin Martin shouldered some of the load last season, but eventually moved on to Minnesota over the Summer, leaving a once dominant Thunder unit extremely short-handed when it came to guy who can score.
Sure, the luxury of guys like Kevin Durant...
