NBA championship rings are priceless to those who earned them, but a San Antonio Spurs legend nearly lost two of his forever.
Johnny Moore's nephew is accused of stealing the former Spurs guard's 1999 and 2003 championship rings as well as hisUniversityof Texas ring and pawning them in San Antonio, according to KSAT-TV.
The rings are reportedly worth more than 30,000 but were pawned for less than 1,000 each.
Moore spent most of his professional playing career with the Spurs in the 1980s and worked with the franchise off-court when they won their first two titles.
"We worked hard a lot of years, trying to get the ring as a player. Never was able to do that," Moore told KSAT.
Police were able to recover the rings and return them to Moore before they were reportedly planned to be melted down.
Moore is one of only six players to have his number retired by the Spurs.
