Houston Rockets GM Daryl Morey believes there's a small chance Yao Ming could play in the 2009-10 season, and the team no longer considers the center's broken foot a career-threatening injury, ESPN.com reports.
"Yao Ming is progressing well. I don't think that [a career-ending scenario] is something that will happen, based on what I'm hearing from the doctors," Morey said in an interview for ESPN The Magazine. "They do know that the bone will heal and he'll get back on it. And they have not actually ruled out [his return] this season. I think that's less likely than likely, but they haven't ruled it out."
Yao suffered a hairline fracture in his left foot during the Rockets' second-round playoff series against the Los Angeles Lakers last May. He was shut down for the rest of the postseason and had two surgeries in July: one to repair the fracture and one to prevent...
