PLAYERS: Royce White
TEAMS: Houston Rockets
Plenty of people expected Royce White‘s anxiety struggles to complicate his time in the NBA. But few expected it to happen so quickly — or to such an extent. White and his employer, the Houston Rockets, have been at odds in recent days over what White says is the team not following through on promises about White’s anxiety issues. White was sent to the team’s D League affiliate earlier this week and has missed practices while taking to Twitter to explain that he’s not trying to shirk his job duties — he’s looking for a solution as to how he can play basketball while taking care of himself. White continued his defense Friday, saying he doesn’t want to give up on the NBA but will if he can’t get to an agreement with the team that he’s comfortable with. I'm not PLANNING to quit, but if its between my HEALTH and BASKETBALL, health takes precedence. You should never choose ANYTHING over it.— Royce White (@Highway_30) November 16, 2012 NBA might be a dream come true, but being UNHEALT...

Royce White says health more important than NBA

Rockets first-round pick Royce White says on Twitter that properly treating his mental-health condition is more important than his NBA career. White, the 16th overall pick in the 2012 draft, has been absent from Houston's practices for almost a week and called the team ''inconsistent' for how it was helping him deal with his anxiety issues and obsessive compulsive...

The Royce White Experiment Is Inching Closer To Disaster

The Houston Rockets took a huge gamble selecting Royce White at No. 16 in June’s NBA Draft. White was a beast his one year at Iowa State (13.4 points, 9.3 rebounds, 5 assists) but his draft stock plummeted thanks to a well-documented anxiety disorder. A major crux of his situation: White has a tremendous fear of flying. Unfortunately for White, the NBA travel schedule is arguably...

Terrence Jones dunks, runs over Jodie Meeks

Houston Rockets rookie forward Terrence Jones threw down this wicked slam during Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Lakers. The man who took the brunt of the blow was none other than Lakers guard Jodie Meeks, who like Jones, also played his college ball at the University of Kentucky.

Report: Rockets plan to fine absent White

Houston Rockets rookie Royce White will be fined for each day he spends away from the team or doesn't attend therapy sessions, according to a Houston Chronicle report. The 16th pick in June's draft, White has been away over a disagreement over how the team has helped him confront his anxiety disorder. The Rockets have arranged for treatment at the Baylor College of Medicine...

It’s Friday, So Here’s The Ultimate Airball Compilation

Thursday’s edition of S.I.’s Hot Clicks contained a lot of gems (‘sup, Ashley Sky?), but none more enjoyable and reassuring than this compilation video of NBA players airballing shots. The first day of my Houston Rockets fandom was met with Jeremy Lin throwing up a Brandon Stroud-esque airball from three-point range, so it’s nice to see everyone doing it, and not just star...

Blazers pull out another OT win over Rockets

PORTLAND -- Overtime victories over the Houston Rockets are getting to be habit for the Portland Trail Blazers. Nicolas Batum tied his career high with 35 points and rookie Damian Lillard put up 18 of his season-high 27 points after intermission as Portland upended Houston 119-117 in overtime Friday night at the Rose Garden. It was the second overtime win over the Rockets in...

Rockets Terrence Jones dunks on Jodie Meeks

While new Lakers head coach Mike D’Antoni still hasn’t made it to the bench yet, the Lakers are doing pretty good in their face off against the Houston Rockets. Well, minus Jodie Meeks. Meeks attempted to take a charge from Rockets Terrence Jones and ended up on the wrong end of a poster-worthy dunk. [...]
