Royce White's battle with anxiety is well-documented.  He was taken 16th overall in the draft this year by the Houston Rockets because of the talent he has displayed in the past.  However, his anxiety issues were an instant concern.  White cannot fly, but the team had worked on a travel plan and an anxiety management plan with him.  Now, after being told he would go to the NBA's Developmental League, it seems like White has complete shut down.  He skipped Monday's game and Tuesday's practice. According to Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle, White actions can have longterm repercussions for his career.  The team has not made any official statement about what will happen to White, but they have admitted his absences were unexcused.  White, though, says it was the Rockets who broke their end of the deal.“In hindsight,” the statement said, “perhaps it was not a good idea to be open and honest about my anxiety disorder — due to the current situations at hand that involve the nature of actions from the Houston Rockets. As a rookie, I want to settle into a team and make progress; but since pre-season the Rockets have been inconsistent with their agreement to proactively create a healthy and successful relationship."White went on to say the Rockets knew he was not going to be at practice and would not be playing, and they knew why.  He said everything is health-related and he is not willing to risk his health for any sport. Whether or not White's situation gets worked out with Houston, it's a sad situation.  There is no doubt he is a good basketball player, but in the NBA, you must travel.  An accommodation such what was discussed before the season (travel by bus instead of plane to closer locations, and no flying) as his may be too damning for a team who used their 16th overall pick to bring White on.
