It’s been a rough start to the season for rookie forward Royce White, who has been a problem with the Houston Rockets organization. His anxiety issues have taken a toll on the team. Houston has done everything for him, along with giving him a team bus to each game he has to go to. However, he continues to blame the team for it’s problems.
This has led to White not showing up to any of the practices this season for Houston. He’s been a huge non-factor and has basically been disappeared with the team since the regular season started, which has led to him being dropped down to the D-League.
According to the Associated Press, Houston is now planning to fine their 16th-overall draft pick from June for every day he remains away from the team, or doesn’t see his therapist for sessions that are arranged by the team. Rockets owner Leslie Alexander says there’s been “internal repercussions” for White’s absence.
The Rockets have already set up sessions for White with Dr. Aaron Fink, who’s from Baylor‘s College of Medicine. However, the Houston Chronicle writes that White hasn’t attended one session yet. White says he’s more worried about the “support” he has than the anxiety.
“In hindsight, perhaps it was not a good idea to be open and honest about my anxiety disorder — due to the current situations at hand that involve the nature of actions from theHouston Rockets,” White said in a statement released by his publicist. “As a rookie, I want to settle into a team and make progress, but since [the] preseason, the Rockets have been inconsistent with their agreement to proactively create a healthy and successful relationship.”
White hasn’t appeared in any games yet, and the Chronicle states that they don’t plan to cut or trade him. We’ll see how this drama unfolds.
