Hello all, I’m Riley Schmitt and I am your new blogger here at Mavs Hoops. Always fun to take over the blog of the NBA champs, and I look forward to covering this team whenever we get a next season.
Back to the task at hand, however. In the 2011 NBA Draft, the Mavs acquired Portland shooting guard Rudy Fernandez for the the rights to the 26th and 57th draft picks. Fernandez looks to have a big role in Dallas this coming season as J.J. Barea, DeShawn Stevenson, and Caron Butler are all unrestricted free agents. It is hard to say if Dallas will bring any of those players back, but the emergence of Barea makes it hard to see him remaining in Dallas for cheap.
Fernandez is coming off a disappointing season in Portland. He spent the early part of the season complaining about playing time and contemplating returning to pro basketball in Spain. This escapade earned him the nickname “Moody” Fernandez in some circles. He only shot 37 percent on the season and barely ...
