The Orlando Magic are playing stellar basketball right now. At 12-5 they sit a half game back of the Atlanta Hawks in the Southeast division. Even with this success Orlando’s star player, Dwight Howard still wants to be traded, and the emergence of one of his teammates might help fulfill his wish.

That person is Ryan Anderson. A guy in his fourth year out of California who hadn’t averaged more than 10 points in a season coming into this year is becoming lucrative trade bait. It has been known that Dwight has wanted out of Orlando for quite some time now, but one-on-one player trades are harder to get done than package deals. Orlando hasn’t had that second player they could send out with Howard that other teams would want, but this year Anderson is averaging 16.8 points per game and shooting 42% from beyond the arc. Those numbers are impressive and even more impressive when you take into account he is 6-10.

While there hasn’t been anything official between the two teams, one trade proposal that is getting talked about right now is Blake Griffin and Dwight Howard being swapped. Alone this seems like a lateral move, but when you add the second players to the trade it starts to make a lot more sense. The Magic would also send Ryan Anderson to the Clippers, and the Clippers would send either DeAndre Jordan or Caron Butler which ever Orlando preferred.

Butler makes more sense because if they trade DeAndre it is center and power forward for center and power forward. Caron would give Orlando the slasher/scorer from the small forward position they lack right now. They would also maintain an imposing presence down low with Griffin.

The Clippers would then have the best point guard center combination in the country (so would the Bulls if he went there) and having Anderson would allow DeAndre to come off the bench. The Clippers would present match-up nightmares for other teams because they would have talented guards in Chris Paul and Chauncey Billips, shooters with Billips and Anderson, elite big men in Howard and DeAndre, as well as depth with Randy Foye and Mo Williams.

It looks more and more like Howard will be traded before March especially with Anderson producing like he has. The Clippers seem to have the most to give them in return it is just comes to down whether or not they are willing to give up Griffin.
