The enigmatic era of Ryan Hollins’ career in Cleveland has come to an end. The Cleveland Cavaliers announced today that they have officially waived the 27 year old center.

Hollins was acquired along with Ramon Sessions from the Minnesota Timberwolves in the Delonte West trade. An extremely athletic big man who was thought to be capable of running the open court, the Cavaliers had hope that he would be a natural fit in Byron Scott’s offense. Unfortunately, the big man never was able to put together the type of consistent output and/or growth to warrant regular playing time.

Hollins, who played college ball at UCLA, seemed rejuvenated when the Cavaliers acquired fellow-Bruin Baron Davis last season, and there was some optimism that Hollins would make the leap this season. Davis was amnestied before the season started, though, and Hollins never showed the same energy and signs of life that he showed last season. As frustration with fans and coaches grew, it lead to this scenario today where the team has parted ways with Ryan, likely to maintain roster flexibility. The Cavaliers’ roster currently stands at 14 now.
