At 9:30 AM, the National Constitution Center was a buzz about the arrival of newly traded center Andrew Bynum and guard Jason Richardson. The doors of the National Constitution Center opened up with Sixers fans already outside waiting to be let in.
Also outside was the 76er Revolutionaries their presence was felt early in the morning. As the morning continued, the crowd got larger as local Philadelphia Sports Radio station 97.5 The Fanatic was there in the building to cover this press conference.
The time grew near when everybody knew Andrew Bynum and Jason Richardson were on their way. 97.5 The Fanatic and the 76er Revolutionaries were getting the fans excited and jacked up. As noon approached, there was no room to move as the second floor of the National Constitution Center was jammed pack, there was literally no breathing room. Next, you heard a loud roar of applause, as Sixers CEO Adam Aron came through the door. Sixer fans chanted “Adam, Adam, Adam.” Then the other Sixers CEO Josh Harris got a loud roar of applause as well as he joined 97.5 The Fanatic Midday Show talking about this big momentous occasion.
Finally, when 12:15 pm hit there coming through the door was Andrew Bynum and Jason Richardson. When Sixer fans got their first glimpse of Bynum they went crazy and were just ecstatic, that finally their superstar is here in person.
You could tell on Bynum’s face that he had never seen anything like this before. You heard the chants from the Sixer faithful saying “Andrew Bynum, Andrew Bynum, Andrew Bynum.” I have to say the Philadelphia fans gave him a tremendous welcome to the city of Brotherly Love. When Adam Aron spoke the Sixer fans got excited and then when the media started to ask questions to the superstar center, they were just amazed and astonished at his responses.
One member of the media asked Bynum about his knees and he responded by saying that “his knees feel good.” That made Sixer fans feel comfortable inside that they are getting a healthy big man. But the one response that gave Sixer fans excitement was when a media member asked Bynum about possibly staying in Philadelphia. Bynum responded by saying “I’m really leaning toward making this my home.” And just this answer alone sent the Sixer fans into mass hysteria. It was so loud that was floor was literally shaking.
Sixer fans finally have got their superstar player and his love for his new team and new city didn’t stop there. Bynum after the press conference was signing autographs, made an appearance on 97.5 The Fanatic Midday Show and even signed his shoes and threw it into the crowd as a giveaway. We can’t forget new guard Jason Richardson as well who was also signing autographs for the Sixer faithful.
Andrew Bynum certainly got a Philadelphia Welcome from the faithful but if he resigns here and brings a title to this city, he will go down in Philadelphia Sports History as one of the best off-season trades ever.
