The Philadelphia 76ers signed first-round picks Maurice Harkless and Arnett Moultrie, who was drafted 27th overall and traded to Philadelphia from the Miami Heat. Harkless (6-8, 208) turned 19 in May and left St. John's after his freshman season in which he was named Big East Rookie of the Year after averaging 15.5 points, 8.6 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1.6 steals and 1.4 blocks while shooting 45.2 percent from the floor. He was sixth in the nation in scoring among freshman and second in rebounding. Harkless had seven 20-point games and a career-high 32 points on 14-of-17 shooting vs. Providence. Moultrie (6-11, 249) entered the draft after his junior season at Mississippi State. The first-team All-SEC pick averaged 16.4 points, an SEC-leading 10.5 rebounds and 1.2 assists, shooting 54.9 percent from the floor last season.
