Danny Ainge hinted that the Celtics could be looking to add a big man to fill the spot vacated by Darko when he returned to Serbia to care for his mother who is ill. Kenyon Martin's name has been bandied about quite a bit. The Globe quotes Martin's agent as saying that he has not had any conversations with the Celtics about Martin as yet. The same article mentions that an NBA source stated that the Celtics have considered bringing in Erick Dampier. Don't you just love NBA sources? It could be anyone from a GM to a janitor who overheard a conversation after practice. The Celtics need a toughness infusion after they were called out as being soft by Doc Rivers. They also need some help on the boards as they have been out-rebounded in 13 of 17 games. They could also use a good defender to help KG anchor the defense and to take over when KG goes to the bench. Sounds to me like they need Perk back, but that's just me. I have a feeling that things are going to start happening after December 15, which is the date that players who were signed in the offseason can be traded. There is also January 10, when the players on non guaranteed contracts are guaranteed for remainder of the season. And, of course, there is the trade deadline on February 21. Danny could wait to see who is waived and who is available before making a move now. Leandro Barbosa has missed the past 2 practices with "an illness." I guess an illness is this year's "flu-like symptoms." Chris Wilcox had "the illness" for a few days and now Barbosa has it. I guess the "illness" is going around. If the illness is the flu, as I suspect, expect it to go through the team - or even the league. Reggie Evans of the Nets missed last night's game with "an illness" also. Barbosa was able to participate in the shoot around this morning and is listed at probable as of this morning. According to A Sherrod Blakely on CSSNE, Kris Joseph could be back with the team for tonight's game. Also, Celtics rookie Kris Joseph is expected to suit up tonight for the C's as well with Fab Melo and Avery Bradley remaining on the inactive list. Joseph, who has shuttled back and forth between Boston and the C's D-League affiliate (the Maine Red Claws), embraces every opportunity he gets to play whether it's in Boston or with the Red Claws. "I'm just trying to keep getting better," he told CSNNE.com. "Going against Paul (Pierce) and Jeff (Green) in practices and taking what I learn to practice and games in Maine, is only going to make me a better player in the long run." The new arrangement with the Red Claws is very beneficial to the Celtics. They are close enough that they can call up players on the spur of the moment. They can have unlimited call ups this season as opposed to only 3 in previous seasons. The biggest advantage is that the Celtics are the only affiliate of the Red Claws and so they can run the Celtics system and plays in Maine. Players can continue to get better in the Celtics system rather than having to learn all new plays for the D-league team. Last night was a good night. The Celtics had off, but the Thunder beat the Nets. It was nice seeing the Brooklyn Thugs getting muscled around by Perk and the Thunder. The Heat also lost to the Wizards. I had to chuckle a bit over that one. And finally, the Rockets beat the Lakers. Harden got some payback on Artest and the Fakers are now 2 games under .500 and in considerable disarray with Kobe sniping at Gasol, Gasol resting his gimpy knees, and Dwight Howard already talking about going elsewhere if he wants to win a ring. Good times. [Discuss on CG Forums!]
