Team Canada got the Jack Donohue International Classic underway yesterday with a 81-72 win over Team Jamaica. Playing for Canada is San Antonio Spurs' Cory Joseph who will like to forget about this game after a sub-par performance. Joseph finished with 4 points, 1 steal, 2 assists, 5 turnovers, 4 rebounds and shot 29% (2-7) from the field in 23 minutes. Despite Joseph's struggles, Canada was led by Brady Heslip with 18 points and was named player of the game. Joseph may have been caught off guard by the physicality of the game which may have lent to his struggles. “It was a little chippy out there,” said Canada’s Cory Joseph, a member of the San Antonio Spurs. “We know it’s a physical game in FIBA, especially in the lane and you could see that tonight.” However, Joseph was just elated at the show of support in the gym for Canada. “It’s great just to have all of the media hype, and the support of all the fans,” Joseph said. “We’re looking to grow from here. You’ve got to love it, for people to come out and represent our country. We were just trying to put our hearts on the court for them and it was good.” Cory and Canada will face Jamaica again this Saturday.
