Kerr's coaching career has gotten off to a pretty good start, don't you think? Kelley L Cox-USA TODAY Sports

Steve Kerr knows plenty about winning. A former player for 15 years, Kerr would be part of five championship teams. But on Saturday, he would reach a different milestone. This time, as a coach. Saturday night, his Golden State Warriors defeated the San Antonio Spurs 122-105. Because of that, Kerr is the fastest coach to record 250 wins. He’s been head coach for just 302 games. But he knows who gets the credit.

It just means that I inherited a hell of a team. An amazing, talented group of players.

While true, it’s a little more than that. Kerr would take over the Warriors after a 51-win campaign under Mark Jackson. His first season in charge, that win total would increase to 67. A season later, the Warriors broke the all-time record for wins in a single season with 73. The Warriors almost have more talent than they know what to do with, But Kerr handles it well.

But that’s not going to stop Draymond Green, one of his superstars, from chiming in.

It means he’s got some good players. Nah, I’m just playing. That’s incredible. Obviously, Steve never had any coaching experience, and to accomplish something like that says a lot. I think with the continuity that he brought to the organization, not only on the basketball court but just in the culture, has made a difference, and that’s why we’ve been able to have the success that we’ve had.

The Warriors have won two titles in his first three full seasons as head coach. And it looks like they are ready for another. Right now, Golden State is first out West and one game up on the Houston Rockets. It’s not going to be easy, but Kerr and company already know that.
