With the Phoenix Suns fresh off a disappointing season; having missed the playoffs and further tinkered with their roster and rolled over the first of two replacement coaches since Mike D'antoni, the question is now what?
For his part Steve Nash has expressed an a very public interest in returning to the Phoenix Suns but there is a cautiousness to the language he used when commenting on the matter that maybe more indicitive of his mind state than the comments themselves:
“My first priority is to sit down and listen to Steve and (Suns Managing Partner) Robert (Sarver) and hear what their wish is and what their plan is for the team,” Nash said. “I can be a part of us revamping here.
“I’m under the impression they want to talk an extension, and I do, too. Hopefully we can find ourselves in a position where we can revamp and be back in the playoffs and hopefully be a contender. Hopefully I’ll be a part of the plan.”
Steve indicates he want's to talk extension in the same breath as wanting to hear what the "plan is to revamp" indicating he could be a part of that but it does insuate a certain responsibility of expecation on the Suns to do something about the current situation.
There-in lies the problem the Phoenix Suns hands are all but tied to the huge remaining contracts of Shaq and Jason Richardson and have a very unhappy superstar in Amare Stoudemire, that was very close to being traded.
So what expectation is realistic based on these circumstance, maybe playoffs certainly not championship.
So am I really to believe that the draw to stay in Phoenix is going to be more for Steve Nash than say to sign with the Lakers and platoon the PG role with Derek Fisher or some other team that has minutes and some money and a real shot at a title? No Way!
Plus add into the mix that Steve Nash has now filmed several of his own commercials even financed one and plans to work in film within companies he already owns (production etc.) when he retires.
Than it's easy to see, what Steve is saying might just be "goodbye"
