The Orlando Magic are currently being held hostage by the best center in the NBA. Dwight Howard has all but said he wants to play somewhere not named Orlando. For the Magic, it comes down to trying to get something in return before he departs, or actually trying to make a run at a championship. It could happen.

Currently, the Magic are mired in the midst of broken up losing streak. While they are 4-6 over their last ten and had a four game skid mixed in, it's not as bleak as it looks. The Magic, in my opinion, should actually trade for pieces to make a run at a title, instead of giving in.

Dwight Howard is the best center in the league, hands down. No matter what pieces you get in return, it won't be a fair trade. Andrew Bynum? Child please. Bynum will never be as good as Howard. First of all, Bynum can't stay off the injured list enough, and there's no telling when his knee is going say it has had enough. The Magic are still a decent enough team, defensively, but they do need help scoring, and getting the ball moving. Namely, they need a point guard that can score.

The Magic are barely scoring more than they're giving up, 92 points per compared to giving up 91.4 per contest. And they rank near the bottom in assists at 21st with 19.5 per game. Obviously, Jameer Nelson isn't getting it done. But, there is someone that could.

Nash to the Magic?Steve Nash. Despite his age, Nash is still an assist machine, and can score off the dribble. He may love Phoenix, but the Suns aren't going anywhere. Nash's assist and point output are make Nelson's output look like he's getting garbage time off the bench. If only he were. There would, of course, need to be smaller pieces thrown in to make it work, but it can. And it should.

While Nash is said to be playing through a thigh bruise, it seems to be something he can play through.

If Howard is adamant about leaving Orlando, he will. But for now, Magic ownership and management need to not be afraid to win while they have him. He wants to win, so build a winner, even if it's for just a few months.

Last year, the Magic went 2-2 against eventual Eastern Conference champs, those guys further south in Miami. It's not as if Miami is running circles around them. They haven't played yet this season.

Don't be afraid, Orlando. You can do this.
