Celtics defeat Thunder 73-65 in Bostons opening game of the Summer League. Sullinger scored 20 and 6 rebs, E'Tuan Moore had 16 points and 4 asts. Dionte Christmas (no relation to Lloyd Christmas from Dumb and Dumber) chipped in 10 points and 10 rebounds and 4 asts. See videos after the jump.
Game 1 of Boston’s five-game schedule in Orlando began just the way the team had hoped. A balanced offensive attack and stellar defense helped the Celtics go on an 18-0 run in the first quarter while opening up a 21-8 lead with just less than 90 seconds remaining in the frame.
At that point of the contest, six different Celtics had already scored at least two points. Jamar Smith and Sean Williams each led the way with six points apiece in the first quarter and Boston held a 25-10 lead after the first 12 minutes.
The domination that Boston displayed in the first quarter dissipated quickly in the second stanza. Oklahoma City, led by a healthy dose of Perry Jones and former Boston College standout Reggie Jackson, charged back to cut the Celtics’ lead down to two, at 36-34, by halftime. Jones scored seven of his 16 points in the second period, while Jackson pitched in six.
Oklahoma City’s run caused Celtics head coach Tyronn Lue to alter his lineup at the start of the second half. He inserted Sullinger into the starting lineup and it paid huge dividends as the final 24 minutes of action unfolded.
Looks as if Jared is gonna pull a Paul Pierce and use his getting dropped out of the lottery as fuel to fire his game. Here are some highlights from Jared vs OKC Summer league action!
Lil’ Wayne once said he woke up in the morning, ashed his blunt in his grammy award, looked into the mirror and told the man staring back, “You’s an ill n****.”Well, I woke up this morning, drank a glass of water, read the Boston Herald, looked into the mirror and saw a smidgen of vomit trickling down my chin because JEFF GREEN JUST GOT PAID $36 MILLION OVER FOUR SEASONS...
This came out of left field when I was reading Kelly Dwyer's column this morning, which pretty much rips Danny Ainge for spending $36 million on Jeff Green.
And Jeff Green, fully vetted as a wing apparently, will be relied upon due to the potential half-year absence of Avery Bradley, who will be out until midseason while he recovers from significant shoulder woes.
With baseball at the All Star break, basketball and hockey in our rear view mirrors, and football around the corner, we find ourselves firmly cemented in the middle of professional sports purgatory. Luckily, for rabid sports fans like myself, the Olympics will soon be coming to the rescue. The one in event I’m particularly looking [...]
We have our first “upset” of this year’s Madness. Former Celtic (have to get used to saying that) Ray Allen’s AJ XIII away p.e.’s were crushed by Rondo’s Huaraches. Now obviously I know much of Rondo’s votes may have come after Ray decided to jet for Miami, but the fans have spoken. Rondo’s Nike Huarache bball 2012 received 63% of your votes to move on to the next...
I completely understand why Ray Allen chose to sign with the Miami Heat.
He gets to go to a team that will contend for a championship every year for the rest of his career, his game is made easier for his aging legs as he’ll likely have many more open, spot-up jumpers with the Heat, and not running through multiple screens to get open. He’s going to Miami, where he can play golf...
Of those lamenting Ray Allen leaving Boston for Miami, Celtics coach Doc Rivers will be among the saddest to see the shooting guard go. In the run-up to free agency, Rivers was optimistic that Allen would return but also admitted he wasn't sure what Allen was thinking. When the news finally came that the player Rivers had once said would be "scary" to lose was going...
One offseason shoulder surgery for Celtics guard Avery Bradley appears to not be enough. It's going to take two to get him in shape for next year. Surgery on Bradley's right shoulder, scheduled for Tuesday, may keep him sidelined into the beginning of next season, Celtics director of player personnel Austin Ainge said Sunday, as reported by ESPN. Bradley has already had surgery...
While Jason Terry will help fill the void left by Ray Allen, the Celtics could still look to add some backcourt depth. O.J. Mayo is one name that's been tossed around throughout the offseason, and the Celtics apparently aren't closing the book on acquiring the free-agent guard. The C's are still interested in acquiring Mayo, according to CSNNE.com, but they may have to...

The Boston Celtics have become a serious suitor for free-agent guard Courtney Lee. Doc Rivers met with Lee Saturday night. After the departure of sharpshooter Ray Allen, sources say Boston has made it a priority to find a possible replacement. Lee averaged 11.4 points per game for the Houston Rockets last season and hit 40 [...]

Basketball is back for a couple of weeks and Celtics fans have a lot to be excited about. Unlike recent Summer League teams, where the majority of the players were just fill-ins with a long, long shot to make the team,...
