Twitter / @ESPNSteinLine: With Jermaine O'Neal lost ... via kwout No one saw this one coming.   Former Boston College Eagle, most recently of the Dallas Mavericks, is close to signing with the Boston Celtics and will be available for the Atlanta Hawks game tomorrow night.  The Celtics are officially waiving Jermaine O'Neal to make room for Williams.   Williams cleared waivers on March 26. The 6-10, 235-pounder averaged 3.6 points, 1.6 rebounds and 8.1 minutes in eight games with the Mavericks but averaged 15.2 points, 8.9 rebounds and 2.5 blocks in 27 games for the Texas Legends, Dallas' D-League affiliate. This makes Williams eligible for the playoffs.  I'm not sure what you can expect out of him.  But he's 6'10", and he can block some shots. I'm hoping this means KG is getting some rest to close out the season.

Greg Stiemsma wants to remain a Celtic

Greg Stiemsma has earned himself some money this season, and when he gets paid, he would like to remain a Boston Celtic. (CSNNE)Stiemsma will be a restricted free agent this summer with a qualifying offer worth $1.05 million. After traveling through Europe and the NBA Development League for years, the 26-year-old center would like to return next season to the team that gave him...

Magic Johnson and Jon Barry state Rajon Rondo is the best point guard in the NBA

In Magic Johnson's "Magic 8 Ball" TV segment, the ESPN crew discussed whether Rajon Rondo is currently the best point guard in the NBA this season. Said Jon Barry: "With all due respect to Chris Paul, Russell Westbrook, Darren Williams, Steve Nash, the whole list, Rondo is the best point guard in the NBA this season." Magic Johnson concurred, and compared...

Report: Celtics Waive Jermaine O'Neal, Set to Sign Sean Williams

The Jermaine O'Neal experiment in Boston just didn't quite pan out how fans or Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge had hoped. After two seasons and less than 50 games in uniform for the C's -- 49 to be exact, it appears that the Celtics are parting ways with the six-time NBA All-Star, according to Marc Stein of The move won't come as a...

Ray Allen reportedly feels slighted by Celtics, unsure if he'll return to Boston

The Celtics are mounting a late-season surge up the standings, but are doing it with Ray Allen not having the best morale. Allen was almost dealt at the trade deadline to the Grizzlies for O.J. Mayo, but with the deal falling through, Allen’s relationship with the Celtics’ front office has become damaged. With that and being demoted to the bench recently, a “slighted” Allen’s...

Trading Ray Allen, Paul Pierce Would Have Been 'Scary' for Celtics Coach Doc Rivers (Video)

Telling a player he has been traded, only to call back a short time later to tell him he actually has not been traded after all, could be described a number of ways. Awkward. Uncomfortable. Possibly volatile. Doc Rivers had another word to describe a report that Ray Allen and Paul Pierce were nearly traded away in March, which Rivers confirmed prior to Wednesday's game against...

Celtics Fall to Knicks, But Two Teams Have Been Heading in Opposite Directions Since All-Star Break

The Celtics found themselves down by 19 points at halftime to the Knicks in New York on Tuesday night after giving up 72 points in the first half. However, the C's stormed back behind an incredible effort from Paul Pierce. The halftime deficit turned out to be too much to overcome, though, as the Knicks escaped with the win. It would have been a nice win for the Celtics at the...

Ray Allen was told he was traded to the Memphis Grizzlies: This fun ride probably shouldn’t be happening

I just woke up from a nightmare in which Steve Novak drilled 497 threes, Rajon Rondo fell helplessly on his back and could later be seen lying uncomfortably on the Madison Square Garden court, Ray Allen’s ankle was the size of a bowling ball so he couldn’t play, Mickael Pietrus came down with an injury and Carmelo Anthony somehow became a menacing all-around player. The cold...

Celtics close to signing Sean Williams after waiving Jermaine O’Neal

The Boston Celtics have waived Jermaine O’Neal and are close to signing former Boston College Eagle Sean Williams, according to Marc Stein of this similar to the Tony Gaffney signing of two years ago, in that the Celtics are signing a project who could play dividends down the road but isn’t likely to field a single second of playing time during the playoff...

Delonte Fined $25K for “Wet Willie”

A couple days ago we wrote about Delonte West’s Wet Willie on Gordon Hayward. Today, the NBA has fined West $25,000 for his little stunt. West himself described it as a “Wet Willie” although it looked a little more “aggressive” than your traditional schoolyard taunt. When asked about the expectation of a fine and/or suspension [...]

Home Cooking Does The Dallas Mavericks Good As They Beat The Houston Rockets For Season Sweep

Finally a good win and no overtime for the Dallas Mavericks as they sweep the Houston Rockets 117-110 at home. Alright, I have to retract one of my previous statements about fourth quarter comebacks as tonight it was one of epic proportions as Dirk scored 21 of his 35 points in the fourth quarter to lead the Mavericks to a much-needed victory against the Rockets. Dirk shot 10 of...
