The Game 1 blowout in Denver-Dallas aside, I love the parity that's going on in the NBA Playoffs right now. There has been some quality ball, and more importantly, there's the suspense of not really being able to guess who's going to win it all : This is truly a season in which we'll have to watch carefully until June.

If Genghis Khan were alive, he'd be giving pressers like Chauncey Billups.
Although it ain't easy to guess, after one round and one game into the playoffs, I think the Nuggets are favorites are to win it all. What's going on in the Mile High City is nothing short of amazing. The way Chauncey Billups has led a bunch of talented but previously direction-less players* reminds me of the way he led Detroit to a title in 2004.

But mind you, Denver goes way beyond just Billups. Billups is the guy that was brought in to rally the troops, like how Genghis Khan consolidated the Mongol hordes that went on to conquer the world, but really, why should we not consider an awakened sleeping giant - that includes the likes of Melo, Nene, Birdman, Kenyon Martin, J.R. Smith, Linas Kleiza and Anthony Carter - to win in June?

A deep team that's high-powered and inspired on offense and defense; a team whose members know their roles clearly; toughness like nails; a championship-forged point guard; an electric atmosphere almost as loud as the crowd of Pacquiao-Hatton; an NBA in flux...

Now tell me : Why shouldn't the Denver Nuggets be picked to hoist the Larry O'Brien Trophy in 2009?

* For that reason, Billups gets my vote as the top point guard remaining in the playoffs. He has emerged as a prince of thieves like Song Jiang, the leader of the band of brother-bandits that rebelled against the Song Dynasty, whose crew was heroicized in the classic Chinese novel-turned-epic Shaw Brothers kung fu movie The Water Margin.
