Brace yourself. The news you’re about to hear may come off as shocking, and could require a few minutes to register. The Orlando Magic will not pursue ex-Superstar center, Dwight Howard, when he becomes a free agent in July. In the most head-scratching scenario of “why in the heck would they anyways”, Josh Robbins of the Orlando Sentinel reports that the Orlando Magic have no desire of reacquiring their former disgruntled all-star. At least not at this time. What does that even mean? Does that mean that perhaps they’ll look to add Howard to their roster in a few years? This seems like a classic case of not looking in the rear-view mirror. The Dwight Howard era has ended in Orlando, and it’s not like the kissed cheeks, shook hands and promised to write. Dwight squeezed the life out of a franchise and fan-base that groomed him and treated him as if he were a God. Howard burned bridges and left good people hanging out to dry. He made the entire organization look silly, got Stan Van Gundy (who was doing a spectacular job) canned, while he acted like rich, entitled 17-year old Valley Girl, whose parents wouldn’t rent her the fully-loaded Hummer limo package, with a hot tub and stocked bar included, for prom. Now we’re talking about the prospect of bringing Howard back to Orlando? “Magic officials are said to believe it’s too soon to try to bring back Howard after the acrimonious eight months between his Dec. 2011 trade request and the deal that sent him to the Los Angeles Lakers. Said Robbins. There would be plenty of stumbling blocks to a return to the Magic, anyway. First, the Magic won’t have the salary-cap space to sign Howard outright to a maximum-level deal. Robbins continued. Orlando, with some maneuvering, could get down to about $14.5 million under the projected cap figure for the 2013-14 season, but that wouldn’t be enough. So, the only way the Magic could acquire Howard would be through a sign-and-trade deal. Such a deal could be worth, at most, almost $87 million over four seasons.” So all-in-all, don’t expect to see Dwight Howard in an Orlando Magic jersey anytime soon. The fact that I even have to say that makes me a bit sick to my stomach. This even being news means the Mayans may have been right, just off by a month or so. Howard seems to still be playing his hand close to his chest anyways, not really giving anyone any insight on whether or not he’ll opt to stay a Laker past the 2012-13 NBA season. My guess would be that Howard doesn’t even know yet. The Lakers are in the toilet, and their many star pieces don’t seem to be clicking. Add in the fact that Lakers’ resident star player, Kobe Bryant, seems to have no issue calling out teammates and throwing guys under the bus whenever he deems it necessary and the plot thickens for Howard and the probability that he suits up in the Purple and Gold for the long haul. Dallas continues to be he hot destination in talks among expert analysts and basketball minds alike, but the ever-changing mind of Dwight will be the real tough nut to crack come July. It should make for an interesting off-season plot to keep track of. The post The Orlando Magic won’t pursue Dwight Howard in free agency appeared first on Pass The Pill.
