Former Louisville point guard Peyton Siva was arguably one of the top point guards competing at last week’s NBA Summer League in Orlando. Players who are drafted at the end of the second round don’t usually last past training camp, however Siva more than proved that he’s worthy of a roster spot in the NBA. In four summer league games last week, Siva averaged 7.8 points, 6.0 assists, 3.0 steals and just 1.5 turnovers in 25.8 minutes per game. Unfortunately for Siva, the Pistons recently signed veteran point guards Chauncey Billups and Will Bynum. Pistons GM Joe Dumars has made it clear that he didn’t sign Billups and Byum because he wasn’t impressed with Siva, however the team needs experience and depth at the point guard position after losing Jose Calderon to free agency. The Pistons will enter the season with the NBA maximum of 15 players under contract and unless there is another roster change, Peyton Siva won’t be one of them.
