'The team needs you': Jamal Murray never doubted ability to play in Game 6 amid illness

Jamal Murray channeled his inner Michael Jordan on Thursday, producing his version of the "Flu Game" to save the Nuggets' season.

Despite battling an illness, the dynamic guard played 42 minutes and finished with 25 points, eight rebounds and seven assists to help his team level up the series against the Thunder with a 119-107 win.

Listed as questionable ahead of the game, Murray never once doubted his ability to gut out his illness. In his post-game interview, he emphatically shook his head when asked if there was a chance of him sitting out the biggest game of the season.

Murray provided further details on the frantic events leading to tip-off in his post-game news conference. He went to a clinic in the morning and "got tested for a couple of different things," which turned out to be negative. Still, he dealt with severe symptoms of the illness, which started to evaporate with every shot he made.

"Everything was kind of bothering me," Murray said of playing through the illness. "When the game starts, the team needs you, adrenaline kicks in, and see a couple of shots go in or whatever, just kinda suck it up and then get through it."

Murray drained four of his first five shots to get his adrenaline pumping but was then seen with a towel over his head on the bench — scenes reminiscent of Jordan's iconic "Flu Game" in the 1997 Finals. According to interim head coach David Adelman, he received IV shots throughout the day and even had trouble breathing during the game.

The 28-year-old showed incredible resiliency to pull through when his team needed him. But it wasn't a surprise in the least. Murray has time and again proven to shine under adversity. According to StatMuse, he is the only player in NBA postseason history to average 25/5/5 on 40% shooting from deep in elimination games.

On Sunday, the Nuggets will once again face elimination in a winner-takes-all Game 7. The stage is set for the "Blue Arrow" again.
