The Thunder could have looked at Saturday's 13-point deficit with eight minutes left and mentally checked out. A loss to the Los Angeles Lakers in Game 4 wouldn't have been the end of the world.

After all, Oklahoma City would have headed home with the series tied 2-2 knowing that it could advance without having to win a game at Staples Center. But the Thunder didn't settle for 2-2.

A rally led by Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant illustrated the Thunder's resolve and turned Game 5 Monday at Oklahoma City into a closeout possibility.

"I've been around four years with this group of guys," OKC coach Scott Brooks said. "One of the things they won't do, they won't quit. It's not in their DNA. They're not wired that way. If they were, they wouldn't be here.

"We're not going to win every game, but we're going to fight 'til the last second of every game."

That mentality has Oklahoma City one win away from a second consecutive trip to the Western Conference final.

"It was an amazing win," Westbrook said. "We kept fighting for each other."

Added Durant: "We play hard every possession and live with the result."
