Thurl Bailey Eager to Watch Jazz This Season: ‘Every Game Is Marquee'
USA TODAY Sports

The 2023-24 NBA season marks a unique time for Utah Jazz and their fans, as this year marks the 50th anniversary of the franchise’s creation. Established in 1974 and officially moving to Salt Lake City five years later, this team has seen countless talented players and rosters to lead them to 30 seasons over the .500 mark.

For former Jazz player F Thurl Bailey, this season in particular feels a bit different -- in a good way. In an interview with KJZZ 14, the 12-year NBA vet dove into why fans should be pumped to see what this team has in store for the upcoming 50th season of Utah basketball:

"When you say that, it makes me feel old because I am 62. I am excited. So much going on — you talked about 50 years. You talk about the build-up coming off last season. After drafting three first-round picks a lot of excitement in the air. There is something about this year that seems as if it's going to be special. Jazz Nation is anticipating something."

Bailey spent ten years with the Jazz, appearing in over 700 games for the franchise. During his time in Salt Lake City, he averaged 14.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 1.6 assists accompanied by Hall of Famers such as G John Stockton and F Karl Malone. Since ending his playing career, Bailey has remained in the spotlight for Jazz fans by transitioning into a broadcaster and analyst role for the team.

When asked about what games he looks forward to 'circle on his calendar' the coming season, Bailey foresees endless important battles ahead that could end up elevating this team to the next leve

"I circle them all! My calendar is full of circles. I think there's always marquee games. It's interesting because for the Jazz right now, every game is marquee. You've got to prove something in this league. The world champions are marquee, the Denver Nuggets, because they have a similar market that we have, and so we want a taste of that."

The first matchup between the reigning world champions and Utah will commence on October 30th in Denver. Until then, fans will have to patiently wait for another enthralling season of Jazz basketball.
