Minnesota Timberwolves' guard Brandon Roy is extremely talented but has had his career held back by various injuries. Even after taking a year off, Roy still fins himself stuck with the injury bug. Roy has been sidelined since November 9th with a knee injury. A full return looked bleak then and coach Rick Adelman seems to have concluded that Roy will not play again this year. Ray Richardson of Twin Cities reports that Adelman said if Roy does end up playing, it would be a "pleasant surprise". He also said that "hasn't worked out with us" and that he doesn't know "where he stands."“If he does play, it will be a pleasant surprise,” Adelman said before the Wolves’ game Wednesday night, Feb. 20, against Philadelphia at Target Center. “I don’t expect him at this point.”Roy underwent surgery on November 19th. He was expected to play again after a month but a setback in December has kept him sidelined ever since. The Timberwolves and Roy’s people have talked about a contract buyout but were waiting until after the trade deadline to keep his salary on the records. Now that the NBA trade deadline has passed, expect the Timberwolves to buyout his contract, thus ending 3x All-Star  Brandon Roy's NBA career for the second time.Follow @hoopsinjurynews!function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];if(!d.getElementById(id)){js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src="http://www.nbainjurynews.com//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js";fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}}(document,"script","twitter-wjs"); var _gaq = _gaq || []; _gaq.push(['_setAccount', 'UA-34100676-1']); _gaq.push(['_trackPageview']); (function() { var ga = document.createElement('script'); ga.type = 'text/javascript'; ga.async = true; ga.src = ('https:' == document.location.protocol ? Adelman Not Expecting Return Of Roy

The Timberwolves reportedly are pursuing a settlement with Brandon Roy if they are unable to trade him by Thursday's trade deadline.

Wolves stand pat, Williams stays put

MINNEAPOLIS At this point, you could stock a full team or at least a starting lineup with players for whom Derrick Williams has supposedly been traded. And yet Williams boarded a plane to Oklahoma City with the Timberwolves Thursday afternoon with all of his teammates, none having been dealt at the trade deadline. Barring some other unforeseen circumstances, he will start on...

After winning a bronze medal at the London Olympics, Minnesota Timberwolves forward Andrei Kirilenko has decided to retire from the Russian national basketball team -- at least for now -- according to a statement on the website of Russia's Basketball Federation. The federation's report states that Kirilenko met with RBF president Alexander Krasnenkov recently and decided...

Wolves needed a win, 'ugly' or not

MINNEAPOLIS It took Andrei Kirilenko seven seconds to make the first shot. Welcome back. It took the Timberwolves a full second half not to blow it. Welcome back to a season in which nothing is ever easy. The Timberwolves defeated the 76ers, 94-87, on Wednesday night, ringing in the post-All-Star stretch the way they wanted to, the way it seemed they had to: with a win. As...

Wolves Wednesday: Barea healing up

MINNEAPOLIS With a 19-31 record and 32 games remaining in their season, the second half will be an uphill battle for the Timberwolves. This is a tired team, an injured team, with 18 of its final 32 games coming against .500 or better teams. It's a long road ahead, but on Wednesday, the Timberwolves were in better spirits than they had been in a long time. Guard J.J. Barea said...

Picking eighth or 28th, it really doesn't matter

MINNEAPOLIS In recent years, the Minnesota Timberwolves have become all too familiar with the curse of No. 2 draft pick. Some years, No. 2 is bantered around with No. 1, falling to second in the draft only because of particular and specific needs. Other years, he is clearly the next-to-best choice, but no matter what, he is hyped beyond all reasonable hype, the game of a 19- or...
