The Atlanta Hawks and Minnesota Timberwolves are having trouble putting enough healthy bodies on the court. The Timberwolves ended an 11-game slide to the Hawks earlier this season, but it's anybody's guess as to what to expect in Monday's rematch in Atlanta. There were eight players out for Minnesota (17-20) as it surprisingly snapped a five-game slide with Saturday's 92-79 victory over Houston. The most notable absences are Kevin Love (hand), Nikola Pekovic (bruised right quad) and Alexey Shved (ankle), all of whom average in double figures. The Timberwolves are also missing coach Rick Adelman, who is tending to his hospitalized wife. Terry Porter is taking his place. Atlanta (22-18) learned Saturday that third-leading scorer Lou Williams will miss the rest of the season with a torn ACL. That news came before a 98-93 home loss to San Antonio in which Devin Harris was lost to a sprained left ankle in the third quarter. "We are down to one point guard,'...

Lou Williams out for season

Atlanta Hawks guard Lou Williams is out for the season after tearing the ACL in his knee Friday against the Brooklyn Nets. See what his coach said about the injury.

After-School All-Stars attend Hawks game

ATLANTA -- A select group of enterprising youngsters from Atlanta's After-School All-Stars program were given the VIP treatment for the Hawks-Timberwolves game on Monday, as part of the festivities celebrating the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Approximately 25 pupils from the MLK and Sylvan middle school (6th, 7th and 8th grades) were rewarded for their exemplary service...

Wolves add Gelabale on 10-day contract

MINNEAPOLIS After several days anticipating the move, the Minnesota Timberwolves on Saturday signed small forward Mickael Gelabale to a 10-day contract. Gelabale, 29, last played in the NBA with the Seattle SuperSonics from 2006-08 and averaged 4.9 points and 2.1 rebounds in 109 games. The 6-foot-7 veteran's strength is his long-range shooting, and he will take Lazar Hayward...

Hawks' Lou Williams suffers torn ACL

X-rays can provide a sense of false hope, apparently. When Hawks guard Lou Williams down with a right knee sprain during Atlanta's 94-89 loss to the Brookyn Nets Friday, the X-rays taken on site at the Nets' Barclays Center came back negative. However, after Dr. Michael Bernot of Peachtree Orthopedics in Atlanta examined Williams and took an MRI, the news came back much...

Injury bug bites reeling Hawks roster

ATLANTA When Larry Drew returned to his office Saturday night, walking in from a short media session following his team's eighth loss in 10 games, his general manager, Danny Ferry, was waiting with one leg crossed over the other on his couch. Safe to say, the Hawks head coach and general manager needed to have a discussion. Following their team's 98-93 loss to the San...

Hawks sign veteran Pargo to 10-day contract

When guards Lou Williams and Devin Harris went down with injuries on back-to-back nights last week, Hawks general manager Danny Ferry knew he had to make a move and fast. Enter Jannero Pargo, a former Hawks guard who signed a 10-day contract with the team to provide a backup for starting point guard Jeff Teague. Pargo is in his 11th season in the NBA and is your typical journeyman...

Devin Harris out Monday; John Jenkins to start

The already shorthanded Atlanta Hawks will be without Devin Harris on Monday. Harris sprained his ankle in the Hawks' last game. The Hawks say (via Twitter) that rookie shooting guard John Jenkins will get his first career start. Jenkins is having a quiet first year: 4.3 points, 1.1 rebounds, .5 assists, .1 steals and .2 blocks with 17 3-pointers made in 11.2 minutes per game...

Atlanta Hawks Lose Third Leading Scorer Lou Williams For Season With Torn ACL

When it rains, it pours on the Atlanta Hawks.  In addition to their issues with star forward Josh Smith, Atlanta has lost seven of their last ten games to fall to sixth place in the Eastern Conference.  Saturday brought more bad news for Atlanta. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution is reporting that Lou Williams, the team’s third leading scorer at 14.1 points per game, is out for...

Chris Johnson And Mickael Gelabale Sign 10-Day Contracts, Earn MVP Chants In First Game

When I learned that Chris Johnson and Mickael Gelabale had been signed to 10-day contracts by the Minnesota Timberwolves on Saturday morning, I suspected that they’d likely see action that same evening against the Houston Rockets.  After all, each player was acquired purely out of necessity — with only seven healthy bodies available, the Wolves needed at least one additional...

Hawks lose guard Williams for season to ACL tear

Atlanta lost not only a game on Friday night, but also guard Lou Williams when he tore the ACL in his right knee in a 94-89 loss to Brooklyn. An MRI and X-rays on Saturday confirmed the injury, which will sideline Williams for the rest of the year. He was injured in the second quarter. While driving hard to the basket, his knee buckled. He left the floor in a wheelchair. Williams...

Hawks overcome 18-point deficit to win

ATLANTA - The staff at Philips Arena rushed to the court with a stretcher after the first quarter to aid the Atlanta Hawks' dunking mascot Sky Hawk, who got a little too wild on one of his signature moves. He was able to exit under his own power. But that pretty much summed up the situation for the Hawks and the Minnesota Timberwolves, two banged up teams that each had to sign...

Fantasy Basketball Week 12 Recap

The Atlanta Hawks got off to a hot start this season, but have slowly come back down earth.  To make matters worse, after a 3-8 start to 2013, the Hawks have now lost "Sweet" Lou Williams for the season after he suffered a torn ACL and will miss the remainder of the season.  Lou Williams was the Hawks third leading scorer this season and they will now rely on Devin Harris...
