MINNEAPOLIS According to a league source, the Timberwolves have expressed interest in three players in the early hours of free agency on Sunday: Greg Steimsma, Jordan Hill and Nicolas Batum. After electing not to extend qualifying offers to Michael Beasley and Anthony Randolph on Saturday, the team is likely in the market for an additional forward and shooting guard. Hill, a forward, was the eighth pick in the 2009 draft and has played for three teams in his short career: the Knicks, Rockets and Lakers. He has never been able to earn a starting role and has averaged 5.3 points and 4.2 rebounds per game over his career. He also was charged with felony assault after allegedly choking his girlfriend in April, a legal situation that has yet to be sorted out. Stiemsma, a forward who spent last season with Boston, has already received a qualifying offer of 1.05M from the Celtics. He averaged 2.9 points and 3.9 rebounds in 55 games (three starts) with the Celtics last season. Batum, who can play small forward and shooting guard, has been with Portland since 2008. He averaged 13.9 points and 4.6 rebounds last season. Follow Joan Niesen on Twitter.
