MINNEAPOLIS Maybe Ricky Rubio just really likes wearing white.
At least, that was what Terry Porter would have liked you to believe this morning at the Timberwolves' shootaround, when the point guard was wearing a white starter's jersey for the first time all season. Porter was vague when discussing whether Rubio would start tonight against the Clippers "He's wearing white," he said. "What does that mean?" but he did acknowledge that the team has engaged in discussions about shuffling the starting lineup.
In the end, Porter did not say either way whether Rubio, who's come off the bench in his first 10 games back since ACL repair, would start. Rick Adelman will be responsible for making that final designation, Porter said, even though he remains away from the team.
"We still have some more discussions," Porter said. "If I had everyone here in white would you come ask me these questions, or just because Ricky's in white?"
"He just happened to put it on white."
I wouldn't be surprised to see the point guard take the court for tipoff against the Clippers tonight, but I also wouldn't be floored if he remained on the bench. Regardless, this is the first time that there's even been an inkling that Rubio would be among the starting five this season, and that in itself is a step. Porter also confirmed that Rubio's minutes restriction has been eased; now, he's allowed 26-28, up from his 24-minute cap in Dallas, which Porter accidentally went over.
"Twenty-four was the max," he said. "I think I exceeded that. I got a demerit."
Porter also refused to comment about the rest of the starting lineup. There's been some speculation recently that Derrick Williams might get a shot to start over Dante Cunningham, and Porter also dodged that question.
"When the ball goes up, you'll be able to tell by then who's going to start," he said.
No CP3, most likely: The Los Angeles Times reported Thursday morning that Chris Paul will likely miss tonight's game in Minnesota. He was in the training room during shootaround having his bruised knee worked on, and if he sits, it'll be his third consecutive game out.
Caron Butler, who's been dealing with a sore foot he suffered Tuesday, will play, according to the same report.

Rubio: Healthy players need to 'step up'
MINNEAPOLIS They clustered around the tunnel, as they always do, above, around, leaning over. Thursday night was not a night for congratulations, not from those fans zealous enough for the leaning over the railing sendoff. A 90-77 loss shooting 35.7 percent as a team when the Clippers looked like they were giving the game away that's hardly the stuff of cheers and high-fives...
Rubio back in starting lineup for Timberwolves
Ricky Rubio is back where he belongs - in the starting lineup for the Minnesota Timberwolves.
The Spanish point guard got the start on Thursday night against the Los Angeles Clippers, the first time he's been on the court for the opening tip since he tore two ligaments in his left knee last March. Rubio missed nine months with the injury and has been on restricted minutes since...
Ricky Rubio Only Gets Backboard On A Layup
The Minnesota Timberwolves have been hit by the injury bug awfully hard this season. Ricky Rubio and Kevin Love, the team’s two lead players, have both missed significant time, with Love currently sidelined and Rubio still trying to find his rhythm.
It’s clear the Rubio isn’t at the top of his game right now, and understandably so, coming off of a major knee injury. And if...
Kahn: Adelman wont return in the near term
MINNEAPOLIS Don't expect to see Rick Adelman stalking the sideline of a Minnesota Timberwolves game in the near future.
The coach, who has missed the team's past six games, has been on a leave while his wife, Mary Kay, is hospitalized. On Friday, the 12th day of Adelman's absence, Timberwolves president of basketball operations David Kahn said he does not expect the...

The Intelligent Player: Rubio vs. Maravich
Jan.16,2013
I was reading comments in a basketball forum about the lackluster player of Ricky Rubio since he's returned from a serious ACL injury suffered last year. Rubio has had a real tough time since he started playing again last month, and does not appear to be moving as well as he did before he was injured last March. So there have been a number of posters on various...
Ricky Rubio Says Teammates Have To ‘Start Doing A Better Job’
“It’s tough,” Rubio said after the game. “I mean, I’m not going to hide. It’s tough when you’re playing, and there’s no more bodies over there. You have to remain doing new things every single game, and we can’t get the rhythm. But that’s no excuse. We are professionals. I think that players that are healthy have to step up and start doing a better job.”

Hay caramba! Ricky Rubio blows uncontested layup at point blank range (video)
The once-promising season of the Minnesota Timberwolves is spiraling out of control courtesy of injuries that have decimated the roster. The T’Wolves are now sitting at 16-20 after dropping its fifth-straight game on Thursday night, losing to the Los Angeles Clippers by a score of 90-77.
Adding injury to injury, two more Timberwolves players limped off the Target Center court on...
Wolves addressing third-quarter problems
MINNEAPOLIS En route to their 90-77 loss against the Clippers on Thursday, the Timberwolves were outscored 21-20 in the third quarter and entered the game's final frame down by five points.
That hardly sounds ideal, but for the Timberwolves, it was a step in the right direction. Ever since returning from its four-game, four-loss southern road trip, the team has had an acute...
Kevin Love to Return to Timberwolves in March
The Minnesota Timberwolves announced that power forward Kevin Love had surgery to repair his broken hand and will be out of action for 8-10 weeks, according to ESPN.
Love, 24, has played in 18 of Minnesota’s 35 games this season and has averaged 18.3 PPG and 14.0 RPG.
The Timberwolves, who have lost four games in a row, have had many players in and out of the lineup with injuries...
Defense May be More of an Issue for Timberwolves Than Injuries
There is no denying that injuries have played a large role in the Minnesota Timberwolves' fall-off in the Western Conference standings. The Timberwolves were once primed to be able to make a run to the postseason. Now, they will struggle to even get in. But despite the injuries, it could be defense that is hurting them more than anything.According to John Schuhman of NBA...
