Sorry for the lack of posts when two games have gone by. I’ve been fighting a cold, but now that I’m feeling better, it actually came at at a good time. Lots of news coming from the Warriors corner.
First, I must say that this Warrior season has been a dandy. For now, the Warriors are undefeated at home. They have been on this grueling 5 game road trip and so far they are at 2-2. They finish the road trip on Saturday at the Milwaukee Bucks before heading home and playing the Detroit Pistons.
On Wednesday, they beat the Knicks 122-117 in the return of David Lee to MSG. He played well and finished the night with 28 points. Again, the Warriors got great contribution from their backcourt of Steph Curry and Monta Ellis who finished 25 and 22 points respectively. The Warriors had earned a 19 point lead but squandered it before Dorrell Wright came and bailed them out with huge three and added an insurance bucket later. Lee, who was a late round pick in 2005 by the Knicks, was given a nice ovation from the crowd as well as a highlight reel during the first quarter.
On Thursday, after a stressful win in New York, the Warriors headed to Chicago to play a young feisty team. And the Bulls showed no mercy. The Bulls dominated the game from the beginning and did show any signs of slowing down. Luol Deng ended the night with 26 points while Derek Rose added 22 points. Tired legs and tired minds the Warriors could not muster any energy to make the game a competition as the Bulls raced to a 30 point lead in the first half. Once again, the backcourt provided the bulk of the scoring and offense as Ellis finished with a team high 24 points and Steph Curry addd 17. However, it is one thing to note that the Warriors were without David Lee who sat out the game with an ailing elbow, coming from a cut.
Because of immense pain from the cut, David Lee sat out the game on Thursday. After doctors looked at the cut, Lee will have surgery on his elbow that has developed into an infection. He will miss the game on Saturday against the Bucks.
Finally, the NBA board of governors have unanimously approved the sale of the Warriors to a group led by Joe Lacob and Peter Guber. The sale of the team went for $450 million, the largest sale in NBA history.
