The reigning NBA Most Valuable Player, Derrick Rose, returned to the court for the Chicago Bulls on Monday night as they took on the New Jersey Nets. It was Rose’s first action after missing the previous four games with a sprained toe. Rose scored 22 points in his return as the Bulls beat the Nets 110-95 and improved on their league leading 16-3 record. Where it was great to see Rose back in action the unfortunate news is that he admits that he won’t be 100 percent for the remainder of the season. No one will ever question Rose’s toughness but his sprained toe, more commonly known in the football world as “turf toe,” has often sidelined NFL players for an extended period of time. In the 2008 season, San Diego Chargers’ TE Antonio Gates was sidelined with the same injury and had to have surgery before recovering. Unfortunately for Gates and others, when severe enough, turf toe is career plaguing. Hopefully the same fate does not fall upon Rose. As for now, expect the Bulls star...
