TEAMS: Miami Heat
The Miami Heat are always looking for ways to get fans to attend games and he Miami Police Department is trying to rid guns from their streets. The perfect solution has been found. Like many other cities across the country, the Miami PD is running a gun buyback program, but theirs has a slightly different twist. Turn in your gun, and get tickets in the 300-level for the Heat. If you happen to turn in an assault rifle, that’s 2 tickets in the 100-level seats. The 100-level typically sell for over $100 per ticket. Other trade-ins were for gift cards at Winn-Dixie or WalMart. “What we’re doing here, we’re beating the odds,” Regalado said. “If one incident is avoided, it’s worth it.” Typically, when these buyback programs are run, it is a no questions asked. The purpose is to just get the gun off the street. While the police are happy to get rifles and handguns, it is the assault weapons they are really after. H/T Miami Herald
