Los Angeles Lakers legend Earvin “Magic” Johnson was a larger-than-life character who seemed infallible and untouchable, as he, along with Larry Bird, helped to save the NBA from troubled times during the 1980s. Magic’s ability to take control of a game at his whim, and make plays which were once thought impossible for a man of his size, changed the way that we look at the role of the “point-forward” in modern-day professional basketball. Prior to November 7, 1991, Magic was on top of the world. On November 7, 1991, everything changed. ESPN has produced a documentary, titled “The Announcement”,  about  Johnson’s November 7, 1991 press conference at the Lakers star disclosed his contraction of the AIDS virus.
