We may have reached a new level for interactive basketball courts. Nike recently teamed up with AKQA and produced the world’s first full-sized reactive LED basketball court in Shanghai, China. The court will help athletes train and adds an interactive, engaging element to a normal training session. It mimics drills based on Kobe Bryant’s own training regimen, and features motion tracking and reactive LED visualization. Bryant debuted the court while in Shanghai for Nike‘s summer-long RISE event. He trained with 30 other players while testing out Nike’s new toy. It’s like a mix between Tron and basketball—a court we’d all love to play on. [Designbloom.com]

Kobe Bryant ‘Achilles’ sculpture from Taiwan is a mythological marvel (photos)

Kobe Bryant may be a revered, idolized and respected superstar here in the States, but in Asia, the Los Angeles Lakers veteran, like many American athletes, are worshiped as if they were the modern day incarnation of mythological heroes. Just ask this guy. Given his status as practically an otherworldly entity, perhaps it shouldn’t be […] The post Kobe Bryant ‘Achilles’ sculpture...

Anthony Davis on Kobe Bryant: “ took me under his wing”

When Kobe Bryant first came into the league, he was a young player with a lot of skill on the court, but not so much when the final buzzer sounded and he stepped off it. For years, Bryant was branded a “loner” and usually stayed separate from the rest of his teammates. However, as Bryant grew older and matured as both a player and a person, the eventual five-time NBA champion...

Crazy Taiwanese Sculpture Has Snake Biting Kobe’s Achilles Heel (Photo)

Kobe Bryant is particularly popular in Asia. So much so that a sculptor in Taiwan created this work of art portraying a naked Kobe Bryant tangled up in a black mamba, which also appears to be biting his Achilles heel. Kobe is called the Black Mamba by Lakers fans around the world as a term of endearment. Bryant has only played in six NBA games since April 2013 when he tore his Achilles...

Taking a tweet and running with it: Are you sure Kobe Bryant said that?

I know I'm probably going to get skewered for posting on this, since it's sort of about the Lakers and not Boston, but it still needs to be said. So, there's a tweet going around about Kobe Bryant supposedly talking about the Kevin Love-Andrew Wiggins trade. I say supposedly because the tweet is all there is.Kobe Bryant: “ Cleveland is making the same mistake that Charlotte...

Kobe on potential Wiggins trade: Cavs are making a mistake

TweetBefore Kobe Bryant became the superstar he’s been for the past decade-plus, he was drafted 13th overall in 1996 by the Charlotte Hornets and promptly traded to the Lakers for veteran center Vlade Divac. The rest as they say, is history. With the Cavaliers set to send top draft choice Andrew Wiggins to Minnesota for Kevin Love, Bryant is comparing the move to Charlotte’s...

Will Kobe Bryant Pass Up Michael Jordan In Chicago?

If Kobe Bryant can stay healthy this season, (big if) he will most certainly pass Michael Jordan on a prestigious list. Kobe currently sits at fourth on the NBA’s all-time scoring list, trailing Jordan, Karl Malone, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Passing Kareem and Karl is unlikely due to Kobe’s age and the amount of miles he has put on his NBA body, but passing Jordan seem like a...

Statue of Kobe Bryant wrestling a black mamba appears in Taiwan

TweetI don’t really have much commentary to add that would do this statue of a naked Kobe Bryant with a giant black mamba snake draped all over him proper justice:   I’m confused and frankly terrified about what’s going on here. We get that Kobe is a huge figure overseas, but, wow. Let’s just say someone has a… vivid imagination in the way they visualize Mr. Bryant. A...

Bryant Says Cavs Are Making Mistake Trading Wiggins

During the 1996 NBA Draft, Kobe Bryant was selected by the Charlotte Hornets with the 13th pick, and promptly traded to the Lakers for center Vlade Divac. At the time, it seemed like a big win for the Hornets, since Divac was one of the better big men in the league and Kobe was coming out of Lower Merion High School in Philadelphia, one of the first guards ever drafted straight out...

Kobe Bryant comments on the Wiggins trade

It is expected that next week Andrew Wiggins will become a Minnesota Timberwolf in a blockbuster deal with the Cleveland Cavaliers. While the trade isn’t official, it hasn’t stopped Bill Self and others to talk about the deal. On Thursday, Kobe Bryant reportedly became the next big name to speak up about the deal. “Cleveland is making the same mistake that Charlotte made with...

Byron Scott Predicts Kobe Bryant's Production For Upcoming Laker Season

Kobe Bryant will be 36 by the end of this month, and injuries to his knee and Achilles limited him to six games last season. So it would be understandable if expectations were low heading into this season. But new Lakers coach Byron Scott isn't buying into that line of thinking. In fact, Scott is projecting Bryant to produce numbers on par with his career averages in three major...

Kobe Compares Wiggins Trade to Charlotte Trading Him

There are several perspectives about the impending trade of Andrew Wiggins to Minnesota. The latest is coming from Lakers superstar Kobe Bryant. Kobe Bryant on Andrew Wiggins being traded: “Cleveland is making the...

Should be statue of limitations on immortalizing sports heroes, right, Kobe?

Our sports heroes can inspire us. We can try to imitate them. Or we can try to immortalize them through art -- or something that's sort of like art. Here are three recent examples, and you judge how successful they were: *First is the most bizarre. In Taiwan, a sculptor has created a statue of Kobe Bryant depicting the superstar wearing not a Lakers uniform but rather a huge...
