MINNEAPOLIS -- The Timberwolves announced Friday that shooting guard Malcolm Lee, who earned a starting job when Brandon Roy was sidelined with knee problems, is out indefinitely with a chondral injury.
Lee left Wednesday night's game in the second quarter with what the team believed was a hyperextended right knee. Chondral injuries are those suffered to the articular cartilage and can result from twisting the joint or moving it unnaturally. The team said that it will work with Lee to determine the next steps to take. Some such injuries require surgery such as knee debridement.
Lee, a second-year guard, was averaging 4.9 points and 2.4 rebounds in 18.1 minutes per game. He started 12 of the last 13 games and scored a career-high 10 points at Philadelphia on Dec. 4.
