Former NBA player Yao Ming has stepped into the world of politics, as it's being reported that he's become an adviser in the Shanghai's legislature.

According to the AP, the 31-year-old announced back in July that he would retire from the NBA and the Houston Rockets, as injuries kept him out off the basketball court for the last few years.

On Monday, photos showed Ming at the weekend closing ceremony for the Chinese People's Political Conference Shanghai Committee.

There's 142 members in the group and Ming is the youngest person in the group.
