With a full roster when the team is healthy, the San Antonio Spurs can't promise players on the bench huge minutes on a nightly basis. With main rotational players taking up most of the 48 minutes in an NBA game, rust and players not developing would be a huge problem if they'd be needed to step up during a major injury. With some faces expected to be returning soon from injury, Spurs fans shouldn't be surprised at younger and newer Spurs spending some time with the Austin Toros to keep fresh and help their game develop as head coach Gregg Popovich explained. "That's what we've been doing. Those young kids need minutes and they'll learn more by playing than sitting on the bench." With the Spurs' core at the end of their careers, the Spurs don't have time to wait for players to develop overseas or sit on the bench for a year and learn like they've had the luxury to do. The Spurs owning the Toros have been a huge help for them already, running their system and schemes so the players can know what to expect in the big leagues with San Antonio. Players playing against each other at practice isn't the same as in a competitive game and the Spurs are showing they know that with this smart move. This move will be more to the benefit of Nando De Colo, who'll be coached with the same system that Gregg Popovich teaches on the court and will also learn with the Spurs team at the same time coming off the bench.
