The tight end position was a position of emphasis this offseason for the Denver Broncos. I am excited to see how this all plays out, but the roll could be to push for more threats in the red zone – an area that was unkind to the Broncos until Tim Tebow took the reins of the offense.  Of course, the number of opportunities in the red zone dropped significantly with Tebow as well.

This group of tight ends should give Peyton Manning plenty of options to put points up on the board and that should make all of us fans happy.

Joel Dreessen

According to my tally, Joel Dreessen isn’t first on the depth chart – but I’m no coach, so…

John Fox must have seen enough of Joel in practice to make him first on the depth chart, which means we’re going to see a lot of him early in the season. I liked the signing when it happened and up until the preseason he was my favorite tight end on the roster. Either way, the Broncos are deep at tight end this year. (Profile)

Jacob Tamme

Jacob Tamme may end up with the best stats of all the tight ends on the roster this year, but that might have to do more with his familiarity with Peyton Manning that because he is the best tight end on the roster. I think he makes the Broncos two tight end sets especially dangerous as the defense will be forced to try to have enough big guys out there to stop the run, who also might need to cover the smaller, faster tight ends like the Broncos have. Virgil Green

Like most fans, I was high on Julius Thomas last year because of the basketball history and all that jazz, but Virgil Green had one of the best preseasons of any Broncos on the roster. He was consistently open and making plays down the field. I can’t wait until he gets back from suspension, so I can see more of this guy. He may be better than most people realize. (Profile)

Julius Thomas

This was a head scratcher for me at first, since he was practically invisible all offseason. I thought for sure he was gonzo yesterday, which was why I was surprised. However, in light of Green’s suspension, we need to keep a third tight end, which may have given Thomas one more month to show us something. When Green must be counted against the 53-man roster, it could be Julius Thomas’ ticket out of here. We’ll see… (Profile)

BT Projected Starters: Joel Dreessen, Jacob Tamme (Virgil Green is looking good though…)
