SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS
There were only a handful of things the Niners needed to improve upon from last season, and receivers was one of them. Smith and the Niners deserve a lot of credit for making it as far as they did with only two solid receivers, but one has to wonder how much further they could have gone with one or two more. Well, next season we'll know. The Niners signed a one-year contract with un-retired Randy Moss, and signed ex-Giant Mario Manningham to a two-year contract. With two more targets to throw to, Alex Smith should feel a bit more confident when he steps out onto the field.
The Niners also nabbed running backs Brandon Jacobs and Rock Cartwright. While Cartwright isn't a very exciting addition to the roster, Jacobs could be. While he admits he isn't the stud he used to be, he puts much of the blame on the Giants' O-line. Maybe he'll find his old fire with San Francisco and be a productive back-up to Frank Gore.
