The New Orleans Saints placed their franchise tag on star quarterback Drew Brees. This means that two time pro bowl guard Carl Nicks will head to free agency. According to Mike Florio, from Pro Football Talk, the Saints have not yet offered Nicks a new contract. The Saints may not be able to keep Nicks in New Orleans. They already gave guard Jahri Evans a mega deal in 2010. They made Evans the highest paid interior lineman in the game with a seven year deal, worth 56.7 million. It would seem that Nicks would look for an even bigger deal than Evans received. If the Saints decide that they cannot afford Nicks, the question on many fans minds is if the Bengals will seek a contract with him.

With Saints tagging Brees, does this open the door for the Patriots to go after WR Colston or OG Nicks?

The New Orleans Saints used their franchise tag and placed it on All Pro QB Drew Brees.  They had hoped to come to an agreement with their record setting QB, but the last report had the sides $5 million apart per year. By the Saints doing this, they opened the door for other teams to go after their other free agents, such as QR Marques Colston and OG Carl Nicks.  The Patriots...

Could the Saints be in the Market for a QB?

The notion seems ridiculous when you consider what the team’s current signal caller has done for the club like setting the single season passing record last year and taking the team to the Super Bowl and winning it just two years ago. Had the announcement come that the New Orleans Saints had signed him to a lucrative multi-year deal it would have come as no surprise, but instead...

It’s NFL Tagging Time

Ever since it’s inception in 2007, the franchise tag has been applied to some of the best players in the NFL. It’s an easy way for teams to keep their stars for at least one more year, without having to sign them to a long-term deal. Teams and players are then able to take the franchise tag year to work out a longer deal if possible. Some players don’t take too kindly to the...
