Season SummaryIt was obvious early on that the season would be a wash for New Orleans in 2012 after Commissioner Goodell ruled that “Bounty-gate” actually did exist and players in past years (under the regime of head coach Sean Payton & defensive coordinator Gregg Williams specifically) received monetary compensation for injuring players on other teams during games. As a result Williams was suspended indefinitely by the NFL and Payton received a year penalty where he couldn’t contact the team. And so began the short head coaching reigns of Aaron Kromer and Joe Vitt. The offense was its usual 28pts-per-game self, while the defense was ranked 2nd to last in points allowed. 2012 RecordA 7-9 record was actually a positive for the Saints after they started the season in shellshock by losing their first 4, including RG3’s coming-out party in week 1 and a week 3 overtime loss to Kansas City (in the Superdome no less)….who only won TWO games ALL SEASON. Positions of NeedIt all begins an...

Top suitors for James Harrison

Recently released Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker James Harrison is still a viable starter in the NFL. Even at the age of 34, Harrison brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to a team that needs a stud outside linebacker in a 3-4 defense. Harrison’s play is on the decline though, and you can see on this chart showing his production from 2010-12. Harrison is on the decline...

Pro Football Zone Interview: New Orleans Saints WR Joe Morgan

When you follow small school, and over-looked prospects, New Orleans Saints Wide Receiver Joe Morgan is considered a true success story. A guy many other players in his similar position can look up to. Morgan was a University of Illinois transfer, who did not light the college football landscape ablaze at Walsh University. The assumption that one must dominate the smaller divisions...

Saints Nation: Saints Extend Junior Galette Three Years, Tender De La Puente and Ivory

The Saints turned their attention to their key restricted free agents over the weekend, taking care of Junior Galette with a three year contract while giving 2nd round one year tenders to both center Brian de la Puente and running back Chris Ivory. The long term investment in Galette is one that wasn't necessary as the Saints could have simply stuck with a one year contract tender...

The New Orleans Saints Are Pressing Forward

Saints Nation: Holden's Idea of a Perfect Offseason

After reading Zac’s article, I would like to give my input of a perfect offseason. I tend to agree with some stuff, but I also have some disagreements with Zac. Let’s review it. Things I agree with: I fully agree that Devery Henderson should go. Besides being a great blocker, his deep threat presence is all but gone. Add to the fact that Joseph Morgan has proven...

Drew Brees Says Athletes ‘Probably Do’ Get Paid Too Much, Seeing As Football Players Don’t Cure Cancer

When it comes to respect or getting what they think they deserve to be paid, most NFL players will fight to the last penny. But when they put themselves next to the rest of humanity, at least a few will acknowledge that they’re making bonkers money. Drew Brees, who had the nicest deal in the NFL until Joe Flacco came and bumped him down a couple of weeks ago, is among those who...

Saints Nation: Defensive Free Agents to Target

This week I will be discussing several free agents I would like the Saints to look into signing, provided they have the cap space. The team needs (in my opinion) are LB, DE, CB, and S. Here are just a couple of free agents that I think the Saints would benefit pretty well from. I will be going position by position in my team needs, starting with: Linebacker: ...

Siena fires coach Mitch Buonaguro after 3 seasons

Siena has fired basketball coach Mitch Buonaguro after three years following a 24-loss season that tied the school's record for futility. Buonaguro went 35-59 with the Saints, never finishing a season with a winning record or in the top half of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. The Saints had been to the NCAA tournament in each of the three previous years before Buonaguro...
