The AFC West has recently been criticized by NFL fans as being one of the weaker divisions in the NFL.  Over the past years the Oakland Raiders, Kansas City Chiefs, and now even the San Diego Chargers have been looked at as bottom tier teams.  However, there is still plenty of talent in the division.  The Denver Broncos are now one of the best teams in the NFL and both the Chiefs and Chargers have the potential to become competitors this year. As we approach the beginning of the season, it is time to look at who the real playmakers will be this year.  In the AFC West, there are plenty of Pro Bowl level players and even a few future Hall of Famers.  Here are the best players in the division position by position. Offense Peyton Manning (Peter Aiken / AP) Quarterback: Peyton Manning – Denver Broncos Manning is one of the best quarterbacks of all time. Just last season, he threw for more than 4,500 yards and 37 touchdowns.  Let’s not forget that he has been to 12 Pro Bowls as well as wo...

Coach Andy Reid, QB Alex Smith says offense has to get better in pass protection: 'I think that kind of falls on all of us'

They both said about the same thing, emphasizing blitz pickup and communication as key elements that need to improve. The offense gave up seven sacks against the vaunted 49ers defense and Smith didn't play well, but along with Reid and Smith, Chiefs' players were quick in answering what they needed to do to get better, 'watching tape, learn from our mistakes and correct them.'

After WR swap, Jenkins dives into life with Chiefs

A.J. Jenkins never thought he'd be back in Kansas City so soon. The former first-round pick of the San Francisco 49ers played in a preseason game against the Chiefs on Friday night at Arrowhead Stadium. On Tuesday morning, he was wearing a white shirt with that familiar arrowhead logo while participating in a walk-through before practice. Such is the NFL, where life can be...

Keeler: Baldwin had all the tools - except the ability to catch the darned ball

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Tools? Jon Baldwin had enough tools to fill three of Batman's utility belts, or so the legend went. In the spring of 2011, the University of Pittsburgh star wideout measured 6-foot-4 and change. He ran a 40 in 4.51. He boasted a vertical of 42 inches and a 6-8 wingspan. If Calvin Johnson was Megatron, Baldwin had the goods to turn himself into a pretty decent...

Of his targets, eight went for more than 40 yards. In his younger days, the new Kansas City Chiefs wideout was clocked at a 4.27 in the 40-yard dash. The cat's a genuine home-run threat every time he gets the ball in...

Second Chance for Jenkins

We can play connect the dots when it comes to the trade that sent Chiefs receiver Jon Baldwin to the 49ers for receiver A.J. Jenkins, but that matters very little now. Kansas City has a talented young man who is going to get an opportunity to show his late bloomer college status wasn’t a fluke.

Kansas City Chiefs: 2013 Game-by-Game Predictions

Last year, the Kansas City Chiefs were the worst team in the league. Over the offseason, they brought in a great new coach, Andy Reid, and a couple of good players.I'm honestly not sure why they did so poorly. Maybe it was bad leadership, but the veteran and impact-player presence wasn't an issue. The Chiefs now have plenty of stars on offense, with the newly-added Alex Smith...
