The Houston Texans know they will have some company atop the AFC South this year. Closely trailing them are the Indianapolis Colts and if this were a track meet, the distance between front runner and trailer would be inches and seconds. The Texans, fresh off another division title and lackluster performance in the playoffs, had a good draft where they added speed at receiver in DeAndre Hopkins from Clemson and D.J. Swearinger, a hard hitting defensive back from South Carolina. The team also filled needs on defense and added depth on their roster. In addition to the nine players selected on Thursday through Saturday, the team added 23 undrafted free agents to its roster. This according to blog.chron.com/ultimate texans.Kansas State quarterback Collin Klein, who was a Heisman Trophy candidate last season headlines a list of players who have a big-school flavor to its roster.Other undrafted offensive players agreeing to terms were Texas A&M receiver Ozoma Nwachukwu, Connecticut receiver Michael Smith, Ohio State fullback Zach Boren, Pittsburgh running back Ray Graham, Western Michigan tackle Dann O’Neill, Louisville guard Alex Kupper, Georgia receiver Marlon Brown, SMU guard Bryan Collins, Ohio receiver Andy Cruse, Syracuse receiver Alec Lemon, Cincinnati running back George Winn, Arkansas running back Dennis Johnson and Notre Dame running back Cierre Wood.Undrafted defensive free agents agreeing to terms were Michigan State cornerback Johnny Adams, Illinois State inside linebacker Evan Frierson, Ohio State cornerback Travis Howard, Kansas State linebacker Justin Tuggle, Florida defensive end Earl Okine, SMU inside linebacker Ja’Gared Davis, Ohio State safety Orhian Johnson and Central Florida cornerback A.J. Bouye and USC safety Jawanza Starling. They also signed Fresno State punter Andre Shapiro.Of the players this team signed, I am interested to see what Zach Boren can do. The Ohio State graduate started 27 games in Columbus and could be a special teams ace for this franchise. Justin Tuggle, a linebacer from Kansas State could also be in the mix for a roster spot. At 6’3” and 244 pounds, can he make the roster and use his imposing size to help stop the run on the inside?
