Here are a few quick thoughts after the Lions 30-28 preseason win over the Browns.  I am still reviewing the game for more in depth analysis.  I blame NFL Network for re-airing Eagles vs Steelers 4 times before showing Lions vs Browns for the first time.

  1. I kept hearing the Lions were losing when all their starters left the game late in the second quarter.  That was false, the vast majority were out of the game by the end of the first quarter when the Lions were up 10-7.
  2. Jason Hanson can still kick and his career just got extended with the new kickoff rule by at least 3 years.
  3. Matthew Stafford still hasn’t been tackled after two games, good because it means he’s healthy bad because you want to get that first hit in the rear view mirror.
  4. The Lions have the best quarterback depth in the division, by far.  I keep hearing how great Matt Flynn is for Green Bay, but Hill and Stanton have won games in the regular season, Flynn is 0-2 so far.
  5. Outside of the penalties, the defense played fairly well.  The Browns got 14 points on ridiculously short fields, but you’d still like to see field goals instead of touchdowns.
  6. The run defense improved dramatically over the first week, except for the one long run against the second stringers to open the second half.
