San Francisco 49ers center Eric Heitmann is expected to miss his second consecutive season after undergoing neck surgery.
Heitmann had the procedure done four weeks ago by Dr. Robert Watkins, an orthopedic spine surgeon in Marina del Rey, Calif.
A mainstay on the 49ers' offensive line since being drafted in 2002, Heitmann had started every game over the three previous seasons before sitting out the 2010 campaign.
"The bottom line is that he feels much better, and the pain has dissipated," agent Kenny Zuckerman told CSN Bay Area. "The tingling has decreased, and his hopes are to play as soon as he's cleared."
