One of the better Jim Harbaugh moments from a year ago: Just months into the job, the San Francisco 49ers coach spurred on his players by screening footage of nature's angry honey badger. In essence, some unsuspecting A/V guy inside the organization was asked to splice together team highlights with footage of the beast ripping across the badlands, the result, the team went 13-3. "It's fun. He's a little crazy. He do things different than, I would say, a normal head coach," cornerback Carlos Rogers told WQXI-AM this week, via SportsRadioInterviews.com. "You'll see the guy holding field goals for (David) Akers, taking snaps at quarterback, throwing the ball to the receivers when they're going over their routes, over there talking to DBs like he really knows what's going on, and just having fun throughout the whole practice. He has fun and he interacts with every position." Rogers played for Joe Gibbs and into-the-abyss assistant Gregg Williams in Washington, Jim Zorn and Mike Shanahan, too. "Long practices, long meetings," Rogers said. "We was there from I guess eight in the morning 'til probably eight at night." Harbaugh mixes business with pleasure and, so far, it's worked, it's easy to forget what a searching, lost mess this team was two seasons ago, or that Harbaugh walked in post-lockout, meeting many of his players for the first time. He might be a strange bird, but his players wouldn't trade him.

Harbaugh, Niners relying on energy to beat '12 expectations

The 49ers enter training camp next month in a role completely reversed from where the franchise was last summer. When the lockout lifted last July, the team was waiting to install new offensive and defensive systems and waiting for a college coach, in Jim Harbaugh, to take over. The results -- a surprise 13-3 season, NFC West title and a fumbled punt from appearing in the Super...

Ted Ginn Jr. could be in danger of being cut

Getty Images Kevin Lynch of SFGate.com believes that veteran wide receiver/kick returner Ted Ginn Jr. could be in danger of being cut by the San Francisco 49ers during training camp. The 49ers are loaded at the receiver position and Ginn has reportedly been rehabbing an unknown injury this offseason that’s caused him to miss OTA’s and minicamp. If he can’t get healthy Lynch...

Santa Clara officials have given former 49ers superstar quarterback Joe Montana approval to begin negotiations with the city. Montana wants to build a hotel and entertainment complex across from the 49ers new stadium. The project covers a total of 8 acres, including 2 of city-owned lots. Montana says he has money for a four-star hotel, a sports bar, an upscale restaurant and additional...

Rookie Fantasy Football Preview: A.J. Jenkins

A.J. Jenkins was projected to go in the second round by the majority of scouts, and he was the definition of a reach in the first round. The 49ers have taken some significant heat for the selection, but I don’t have a major issue with it outside of the fact that they probably should have traded down to the early second round if they really wanted Jenkins.   Jenkins is an explosive...

Niners now prepared to be the hunted

The 49ers’ situation as they enter training camp next month is completely reversed from a year ago, when the team was in suspended animation like the rest of the NFL. The struggling Niners were in a state of flux worse than others as they waited to install new offensive and defensive systems and waited for a college coach in Jim Harbaugh to take over – the team’s fourth head...
